Last Saturday I had the chance for the first time in my life to play Santa Claus for a bunch of kids. I was nervous and overheating in the suit and quite frankly felt a little embarrassed about it. But then came the moment when I emerged to the thirty or so children in the room to Bruce Springsteen’s “Santa Clause is Coming to Town.” And you know what…it was magical to see those kid’s faces light up. Way cool and fun as heck as I HO-HO’d and gave out gifts to so many thank you’s and Merry Christmas from the kids. I even got them to sing some Christmas carols with me.
It got me thinking about the craziness about the whole Merry Christmas vs. the Happy Holidays thing and how really stupid it is. Can you imagine the governor from Rhode Island refusing to call the state Christmas Tree anything but a Holiday Tree. Duh, that’s what it is called historically. That’s as stupid as calling the Jewish Menorah a Holiday Candelabra. Which would never happen!
The entire debate is so ridiculous. And what’s most ironic about it is that the people who are trashing Christmas so much are the very self righteous activists who pontificate on tolerance and diversity. To quote the Brad Stine bit “what problem do these people have with Peace on Earth or Good Will to Men?” What hypocrites. I have a friend from India which is a overwhelmingly a Hindu nation , who says that everyone in India says Merry Christmas.
I am an easy going guy until people start to take away my rights and culture. That is the very reason why we started Save The Redneck. And to be honest, now when I go to the store I make it a point to say Merry Christmas to the clerk and demand that he says it back and that he or she does not respond with a weak Happy Holidays. Isn’t it funny that saying Merry Christmas is now an act of defiance. Don’t tread on my Holiday, dude!
And the energy and effort put out by atheists and liberals to stop nativities, menorahs and Christmas trees is at a fever pitch. Google it for yourself as I have provided you with only one. It’s amazing that these self thought enlightened people are sooooo angry about this. In Port Angeles Washington people are stealing baby Jesus figurines form people’s front yard Nativity scenes. How is this not considered a religiously related hate crime of sorts. Imagine if these acts were being done to Muslims, there would be outcry of intolerance, and profiling and hate but piss on people celebrating Christmas and it is just back page news.
So most critical, remember the most important aspects of Christmas and keep it strong in your hearts. And do not let anyone take it away. Stand up for what you believe! Be happy this Christmas Season, spend it with the ones you love, celebrate Peace, Good Will , Generosity. And celebrate it in true Redneck Fashion. Merry Christmas.
